My personal portrait:
Top 5 Novels:
-
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
-
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
-
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
-
Cannery Row by John Steinbeck
-
Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
Writers I'd most like to be:
-
Annie Dillard - writer of insightful and artful
non-fiction like The Writing Life and Pilgrim at Tinker
Creek
-
E.B. White - writer of children's books, like Charlotte's Web, and essays,
which were usually published in The New Yorker. Thus, White
was interesting to both his children and his friends - who could
aspire to more?
Top 5 Movies:
-
Back to the Future
- the first
one earns the spot, though it's most fun to enjoy all three
-
Lord of the Rings
- I think of the entire trilogy as one work.
-
Dead Poet's Society
-
Shawshank Redemption
-
The
Natural
Top 5 Bands:
Preferred Weekend Activity: hiking in the hills;
in the winter, snowshoeing in the hills
Things to do before I die:
Harmless Addictions:
-

Today three mornings a week.
-
Boston Red Sox - I grew up an hour and a half north
of Boston.

Educational Achievements
Educational Philosophy
I believe educators must equip students
with the essential skills they will need to move on to the next stage of
their lives, whatever that stage may be. To do that best, I make my
classroom an interactive environment where everyone’s work and ideas are
valued. As a teacher, I am first a resource, introducing material
through models and instruction. I am then a coach, guiding students in
their own attempts to master that material. I provide students with
opportunities to acquire and express learning through a variety of
styles, and I vary my assessment techniques, because tests are limited
in their ability to assess the skills of my subject. I deal with
students practically, empathizing with them before reprimanding them and
using the best disciplinary strategy for each situation. I expect great
things from myself, and I trust that my students will understand that
they are capable of the great things which I expect from them.
People
Philosophy: Love one another.
Grading
Policy: Click on the radio for a grading policy. Well, maybe it's
not mine . . .
My mom took the picture in the banner for this page.
It's a typical sight in the town I grew up, though the people who are
serious about producing syrup use plastic tubes and run them downhill.
