Here's the info we covered regarding outlines. See the
hyperlinked items to get to them quickly.
Formatting Guide
Aren't sure about how to outline? Here's a
refresher course:
1. Start with Roman
Numerals (capital “i” is the symbol for “one.”)
2. The next subtopic
should be a capital letter.
3. If you need a
subtopic within the capital letter subtopic, use a regular numeral (1,
2, 3 etc.)
4. Your first Roman
Numeral topic must be “Introduction.”
5. Your last Roman
Numeral topic must be “Conclusion.”
Here’s
what an outline should look like:
RESEARCH PAPER OUTLINE
I. Introduction
II. Topic idea
A. Subtopic
B. Subtopic
1. Sub-subtopic
2. Sub-subtopic
III. Next topic (you might have
several more of these)
IV. Conclusion (might be a
different number)

Outline Standards
Our outlines need to meet the following criteria:
- Typed
- Each note (the cards and the cut up Word documents) needs to be
referenced on the outline by its note-heading and the number you've
written on the card
- Under the introduction, include your thesis and your initial
idea about your attention grabber
Topic questionnaire:
1.
Do I have enough to write a paragraph about each of the headings?
2.
Are there any for which I have too many?
3.
Have I used all my notes?
4.
Could I change any of my headings to fit my topic better? (Ask a
friend for advice if you need to)
5.
Is my thesis still appropriate, considering my new headings?
